That will break when u pull it need to cut knotches in that wood to put the cross boards in so the force is being held by the wood not screws..

Pulling a smitty sled is hands down easier then hauling a portable without one. Like Tinker said, I barely notice the sled at all on glare ice or hard packed snow. I did run into a week or so of 12-20″ drifts last winter. My thought for a small hub was put the sled/seats all on one side just like a flip-up. But when using a larger hub, like a 6x12' put the sled in the middle and fish off both sides of it. Have the seats swivel as needed. Heck worst case bring an extra chair or two. The sled/box is easy.I think that pushing a smitty sled would be like pushing a chain, not very easy. I would recommend an all temperature ski wax for pretty much all conditions. It's intended to be melted onto the base of the ski, then scraped off.
